#Everycanhelps – Tesco collection sees 6.8 tonnes of food donated for those in need in Stockport

12th December 2019

Each year Trussell Trust food banks team up with Tesco to organise three days of collecting for food banks across the country. This year we had an army of volunteers in Tesco stores at Handforth Dean and Portwood. Over three days the volunteers worked tirelessly to talk to shoppers about the needs of the foodbank and collect donations.

A whopping 6.8 tonnes of produce was donated by generous customers and top up donations from Tesco as well as hundreds of pounds of cash donations.

Stockport Foodbank manager Nigel Tedford commented “We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of the volunteers who give up their time, the shoppers who donate produce and money and Tesco who donate produce and allow us to partner with them. This year our collection equates to approximately seven and a half thousand meals which goes a long way to ensuring nobody in Stockport goes hungry.”

A number of local stores have collection points all year round so if you missed out on donating during the #everycanhelps campaign, you can donate at your local store.
